This week we've mainly been getting back to normal after our holiday. I was in London on Tuesday and Thursday and it was nice to see some of the TR team. That said, I do appear to have picked up a cough and cold from london so I'll probably be working from home this week to help me recover and to avoid spreading it.

At work I'm starting to get more actively involved in ongoing projects and pick up line management for some of the engineering team. Now that I'm back from holiday it's kind of nice to be able to really get into things. The work I'm picking up is quite varied and it's giving me an opportunity to look at using small language models for some internal copy writing and editing tasks.

Since I got back I've not had a huge amount of time (or energy) to pick up healthier habits yet but we have been a lot more careful what we eat this week which has meant that since I came home I've managed to shift 1.7kg of weight already. I guess going from hobbit meal plans on a daily basis (2nd breakfast, elevensies etc) to a calorie deficit has had a fairly substantial impact on my body. Dependong on how well I feel this week I will try to get out for regular walks and exercise but we'll definitely stick to healthier meals and limited snacking and see if another 2kg falls off this week.

I published two blog posts this week. Firstly, I wrote about how [AI coding assistants can inadvertantly inject security vulnerabilities into your code if you're not careful](https://brainsteam.co.uk/2025/2/12/ai-code-assistant-curl-ssl/) and then yesterday I wrote about how I've started [using Hoarder to manage my bookmarks and create a personal archive](https://brainsteam.co.uk/2025/2/15/personal-archive-hoarder/) which seems quite pertinent given how much useful information is being taken down or displaced with AI slop at the moment.

I also downloaded all my Kindle ebooks after [Terence Eden raised the alarm about Amazon disabling this functionality](https://mastodon.social/@Edent/114002591748639959) a couple of days ago. I was initially surprised that Amazon would further enshittify their ebook system when there are so many competitors out there but then again, Amazon making anti-consumer choices shouldn't surprise anyone really. I am probably going to start getting my ebooks from Kobo from now on. I would like to buy ebooks from Bookshop.org but they don't currently seem to offer this functionality in the UK and they have pretty rubbish DRM restrictions too. I could go back to analogue books but a) I'm clumsy and likely to damage them b) I travel on the train a lot and books take up a lot of room and c) we don't have huge amounts of space in our house for a huge library.

I'm still enjoying [High Potential](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt26748649/) which I've been watching on my commute and I'm still playing Dead Cells on my Switch when I get a few minutes of down time too.

This coming week I'll be trying to get over this cough/cold thing and if I feel well enough we should be going to see Chris McCausland in Southampton. I also have a few house jobs I want to start looking into including finding a flooring fitter who can put down some laminate for us in our living room and replacing the annoying dimmer switch in my office with an on/off light switch.
