Weeknote 01/2025 | posts | /2025/1/5/weeknotes-01 |
I thought I'd see how I get on with weeknotes again this year. We'll see how long it lasts but it would be great to try and stick to this habit.
This week marked the last week of my 5 week break between my old job and my new job which I start tomorrow. The time has absolutely flown by as it usually does during the festive period. I usually struggle with the post-christmas at this time of year but I am excited for a new start and I've been preparing for my new routines and commute.
At the start of this week I returned home from a weekend trip to see my parents in the midlands, Mrs R stayed home as she had a stonking cold - yes "the cold" that everyone seems to have been talking about - and didn't want to pass it on to my family. I hit a pothole on a tiny Shropshire lane over the weekend which completely destroyed my tyre and put a significant dent in the wheel itself so I spent quite a lot of this week trying to get that resolved. On the same day, I also went on a walk with my Dad and his wife and later won a local pub-quiz with my mum and her partner so it wasn't all bad.
I managed to get this photo of the fog gently flowing over the Malvern Hills last weekend on our walk.
New Years Eve is usually a bit of a non-event in the Ravenscroft household. This year Mrs R and I got ourselves an M&S meal for two and watched Jools Holland, Sophie Ellis Bexter and the London fireworks on TV. The weather has been pretty atrocious all week so on new year's day we just had a quiet day in. Mrs R was back at work on Thursday and Friday so I spent some time getting reflective writing my annual review for 2024 and also starting to get organised for my new role next week.
Sitting around in garage waiting rooms, coffee shops and our living room this week meant that I made quite a lot of progress with my reading list. This year I plan to read 24 books which would be about 33% more than in 2024. I finished The Book That Broke the World which is the 2nd action-packed instalment in Mark Lawrence's Library trilogy. I started Hunt the Stars which is a cheesy sci-fi that I picked up cheaply based on a recommendation from Mastodon. I also finished Joan Westenberg's Friction and started Dr Rangan's Make Changes that Last.
This coming week will be my first full week in my new role. I'll definitely write more about what my job is and what it entails in the next few days. I'm hoping to get settled into a relatively stable routine so that I can start some of the experiments I want to try, Weeknotes being one of them!
